Dandridge, Jefferson City, Rutledge, and the lake country east of Knoxville.

P&L Business Services provides bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation for businesses in Jefferson and Grainger counties. We have been doing this work for 35 years, 28 of them in Tennessee.

These two counties sit side by side along Douglas and Cherokee lakes, east of Knoxville. Dandridge, Jefferson City, White Pine, and New Market are in Jefferson County. Rutledge, Bean Station, and Blaine are in Grainger. Most of our work here happens digitally.

We bill hourly. You pay for the work you actually need, not a package built around someone else’s business.

What We Know About Jefferson and Grainger Counties

Two counties, a lot of small towns, and separate filings for each.

Two counties means two sets of county filings.

A business in Jefferson City and one in Rutledge are only a few miles apart, but they file county business tax and tangible personal property returns with different counties. Inside a city or town, you owe that city’s business tax on top of the county’s. Outside every city limit, you owe the county’s alone. It is one of the first things we confirm.

Strawberry Plains reaches in from Knox County.

The community crosses Knox, Jefferson, and Sevier counties. Your filings go to the county your property is actually in, whatever the mailing address says.

You get a person, not a ticket.

When you call, you reach someone who already knows your business. There is no queue and no case number.

Remote whenever you want it.

Documents come to us through our secure client portal or email. Meeting in person is an option you can use when you need it, not an obligation.

Who We Work With

We work with businesses across Jefferson and Grainger counties, from owner-operators doing the books on Sunday night to established companies with a full payroll.

That includes trades and contractors, title companies, salons, dental practices, physical therapy clinics, cleaning companies, artists and content creators, and chambers of commerce. See who we serve.

If you are not sure whether you are the right fit, call and ask. It is a short conversation either way.

Serving All of Jefferson and Grainger Counties

Common Questions from Jefferson and Grainger County Business Owners

Do you have an office in Jefferson or Grainger County?

No. Our office is in Oak Ridge, and it moves to downtown Clinton in December 2026. Most of our Jefferson and Grainger County clients work with us digitally, and we meet in person when it helps.

Do you work with businesses this far east of Knoxville?

Yes. Most of our work happens digitally, through our secure client portal and email, so distance matters less than it used to. We meet in person when it helps.

Which Tennessee filings do you handle?

Annual city and county business tax returns, monthly sales tax filings, tangible personal property returns, annual franchise and excise tax returns, and quarterly payroll tax returns. We also serve as registered agent, which keeps your LLC from being administratively dissolved because a notice went to an old address or the circular file.

Do I need a CPA or a bookkeeper?

For most businesses, a bookkeeper handles the ongoing work — recording transactions, reconciling accounts, running payroll, filing sales and business tax returns, and producing financial statements. A CPA is typically brought in for audits, complex tax strategy, or certified financial statements. We handle bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation, and we will tell you plainly if something needs a CPA. We work directly with several CPAs and will refer you to them.

How do you charge?

We bill hourly. We do not sell packages, because most businesses do not need the same amount of work every month and we would rather not charge you for hours you did not use.

Ready to hand off the books?

One conversation tells us whether we are a fit. There is no obligation and no pressure.
