From Alcoa to Townsend, the peaceful side of the Smokies.

P&L Business Services provides bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation for businesses across Blount County. We have been doing this work for 35 years, 28 of them in Tennessee.

Maryville has its own page. This one covers the rest of the county: Alcoa, Friendsville, Louisville, Rockford, Townsend, and Walland, each with its own mix of businesses and, in most cases, its own city government.

We bill hourly. You pay for the work you actually need, not a package built around someone else’s business.

What We Know About Blount County

Small towns, close together, with separate rules.

Blount County has six cities and towns.

Maryville, Alcoa, Friendsville, Louisville, Rockford, and Townsend each have their own government. Walland does not. Inside a city or town, you owe that city’s business tax on top of the county’s. Outside every city limit, you owe the county’s alone. It is one of the first things we confirm.

Townsend runs on the visitor calendar.

Businesses at the edge of the national park have busy seasons and quiet ones. Payroll, sales tax, and cash flow all follow that calendar, and we bill hourly, so a slow month costs less.

You get a person, not a ticket.

When you call, you reach someone who already knows your business. There is no queue and no case number.

Remote whenever you want it.

Documents come to us through our secure client portal or email. Meeting in person is an option you can use when you need it, not an obligation.

Who We Work With

We work with businesses across Blount County, from owner-operators doing the books on Sunday night to established companies with a full payroll.

That includes trades and contractors, title companies, salons, dental practices, physical therapy clinics, cleaning companies, artists and content creators, and chambers of commerce. See who we serve.

If you are not sure whether you are the right fit, call and ask. It is a short conversation either way.

Common Questions from Blount County Business Owners

Do you have an office in Blount County?

No. Our office is in Oak Ridge, and it moves to downtown Clinton in December 2026. Most of our Blount County clients work with us digitally, and we meet in person when it helps.

My business is in Walland. Do I owe city business tax?

No. Walland is not a city, so a business there owes Blount County’s business tax alone. Townsend, Rockford, Louisville, Friendsville, Alcoa, and Maryville are cities, and a business inside one of them owes that city’s business tax as well.

Which Tennessee filings do you handle?

Annual city and county business tax returns, monthly sales tax filings, tangible personal property returns, annual franchise and excise tax returns, and quarterly payroll tax returns. We also serve as registered agent, which keeps your LLC from being administratively dissolved because a notice went to an old address or the circular file.

Do I need a CPA or a bookkeeper?

For most businesses, a bookkeeper handles the ongoing work — recording transactions, reconciling accounts, running payroll, filing sales and business tax returns, and producing financial statements. A CPA is typically brought in for audits, complex tax strategy, or certified financial statements. We handle bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation, and we will tell you plainly if something needs a CPA. We work directly with several CPAs and will refer you to them.

How do you charge?

We bill hourly. We do not sell packages, because most businesses do not need the same amount of work every month and we would rather not charge you for hours you did not use.

Ready to hand off the books?

One conversation tells us whether we are a fit. There is no obligation and no pressure.
