In December, Clinton becomes home.

P&L Business Services provides bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation for businesses in Clinton and across Anderson County. We have been doing this work for 35 years, 28 of them in Tennessee.

In December 2026, our office moves from Oak Ridge to downtown Clinton. For Clinton business owners, that means a bookkeeper in town — close enough to drop off a box of receipts on the way past the courthouse, and close enough to sit down together when tax season turns complicated. It also puts us twenty minutes from downtown Knoxville, which keeps us close to the rest of the region we serve.

We bill hourly. You pay for the work you actually need, not a package built around someone else’s business.

Why a Firm in the County Seat

Most of our work is digital. But there are still reasons Anderson County business owners choose someone nearby.

We are part of the business community here.

Lea Ann Sanford serves on the board of the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce. We know the people and the organizations Clinton businesses work alongside, because we work alongside them too.

We know Tennessee filings.

City and county business tax returns. Sales tax. Tangible personal property returns to the Anderson County assessor. Annual LLC filings. National online services routinely miss these or file them wrong, and the penalties land on you, not on them.

You can hand us the box.

Ziploc bags, DoorDash bags, and shoeboxes are all accepted. We would rather have the box than a year of guesswork, and in Clinton the box does not have to travel far.

Remote whenever you want it.

The day-to-day happens through our secure client portal and email. Being in town is an option you can use when you need it, not an obligation.

Who We Work With

We work with businesses across Clinton and Anderson County, from owner-operators doing the books on Sunday night to established companies with a full payroll.

That includes trades and contractors, title companies, salons, dental practices, physical therapy clinics, cleaning companies, artists and content creators, and chambers of commerce.

If you are not sure whether you are the right fit, call and ask. It is a short conversation either way.

Common Questions from Clinton Business Owners

When does your Clinton office open?

Our office moves to downtown Clinton in December 2026. Until then, we are at 109 W. Tennessee Ave. in Oak Ridge, and we already work with Clinton businesses from there.

Do you work with businesses outside Clinton?

Yes. Our clients are spread across East Tennessee, from Anderson County to Knox, Roane, Blount, Loudon, and Sevier counties. Most of the work happens digitally, so distance matters less than it used to.

Do I need a CPA or a bookkeeper?

For most businesses, a bookkeeper handles the ongoing work — recording transactions, reconciling accounts, running payroll, filing sales and business tax returns, and producing financial statements. A CPA is typically brought in for audits, complex tax strategy, or certified financial statements. We handle bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation, and we will tell you plainly if something needs a CPA. We work directly with several CPAs and will refer you to them.

Which Tennessee filings do you handle?

Annual city and county business tax returns, monthly sales tax filings, tangible personal property returns, annual franchise and excise tax returns, and quarterly payroll tax returns. We also serve as registered agent, which keeps your LLC from being administratively dissolved because a notice went to an old address or the circular file.

How do you charge?

We bill hourly. We do not sell packages, because most businesses do not need the same amount of work every month and we would rather not charge you for hours you did not use.

Ready to hand off the books?

One conversation tells us whether we are a fit. There is no obligation and no pressure.
